Another List Poem… February 25, 2012

My poetry students and I wrote “I’m Better Than OK” list poems…a great idea from Debbie Gonzalez, whose “Poetic Magic” workshop I went to at a Montessori conference.

I’m OK at using handyman tools.
I’m gifted at connecting home electronic equipment.

I’m OK at remembering why I went into a room.
I’m talented at getting distracted.

I’m OK at cleaning house.
I’m outstanding at overlooking messes.

I’m OK at public speaking.
I’m terrific at being a good listener.

I’m OK at loyally defending others.
I’m incredible at seeing all sides.

I’m OK at finishing what I’ve started.
I’m amazing at starting new projects.

List Poems February 22, 2012

I’m teaching a 5-week poetry class to 4th-8th graders (a bit of a stretch beyond my comfort zone, which is good, they say) and we played around a bit with learning how to write list poems. They’re kind of fun. Here’s my alphabetic list poem:

Almost Two

Adventurous
Baby no more
Curious
Determined
Exploring
Fast
Go, go, going
Hurry
I want down!
Jumping for joy
Kicking
Let go,
Mama!
No, no, no!
Oh, oh, oh!
Playing
Quick
Rolling
Sleeping?
Toddling
Up, under
Very busy
Wiggling
eXhausted
Yawning
Zzzzzzz….
