One afternoon
Weary and rue
Not quite sick
with not quite the flu
A call came in
quite out of the blue
A miracle
I was there for you.
The sweetest sentiments
I long wished to hear
Sailed a beam of light
from your mouth to my ears.
Forever to be held
in my heart, my dear.
You said I want you to know
that I’ll always be here.
Your smallest worries
I pray to clear.
I wanted to be with you
all these years.
And my spirit was as happy
as a child of three
Giggling and laughing
perched upon your knee.
Face full of joy
as you hold onto me.
Past the lump in my throat
And the tears that I’ve cried
The truth wrenched free
from the silencing lies.
Taking a leap
I let it fly.
I’m so glad
I said it, too.
These words I’ve held
so long for you
Enter my life.
I love you.

that’s so sweet my teeth hurt
just kidding
its not sappy at all
quite lovely as a matter of fact
I know…gushy, right? But sometimes, that’s how I roll.
Hi, Lori,
I’m so glad you visited because I get to read your blog. Nice surprise. I like your title and concept here because I would ordinarily see it the other way around. (You were there for me). Very catchy.
Thanks Sue! I really love your blog site, http://swedenblogian.blogspot.com/
I go there whenever I see you have new posts. Your writing is very enjoyable to read and thought provoking.
this poem touched me. I feel inspired. thank you.
Thanks. This poem reads like it is written to God, and it certainly works, but was actually inspired by my “coincidentally” being available for an out-of-the-blue phone call from my birth father at a time I am typically never at home…moments like those make me feel certain of the presence of the Lord in my life at all times, regardless of whether I am aware of the connection or not.
